Darning socks

Nothing lasts forever, even sock-yarn socks. I found a hole on the heel yesterday. Actually I can darn socks but I thought, maybe the humankind has invented something new since I did it for the last time. And yes, it has! Ages ago☺

Ничто не вечно под луной, даже носки из носочной пряжи. Вчера нашла дырочку на пятке. Штопать я умею, но вдруг человечество изобрело новый способ с тех пор, как я занималась этим в последний раз? И таки да, изобрело! Причем давно. Называется он "швейцарская штопка". Привожу здесь два варианта. Я воспользовалась первым на этот раз.

Well, I haven't been here for four month - shame on me, and even now it's still not a great comeback. My Georgie Cardie isn't finished yet, but now when I'm back from my summer trip to Latvia (where I haven't knitted a single stitch) I'm full of enthusiasm and hope I try it on by X-mas ☺

The book is amazing!  Both beautifully made and highly functional. This is the second edition and maybe there will be more, because people snap it up in a minute.

Давненько меня здесь не было, 4 месяца целых - и всё равно это еще не совсем возвращение, так как хвастаться нечем. За лето в Латвии не связала ни петельки, зато теперь с удвоенной энергией берусь за свой карди Джорджи, которому еще конца-края не видать. Надеюсь, всё же, к Рождеству его примерить ☺

The Money cat for my superstitious sister-in-law (she was told ginger cats bring money) and another one - Sly Cat - for us. Not ginger but we already have a ginger cat - a real one! Not quite ginger, though, maybe that's why we are still not millionaires )))

Всё, с игрушками я закончила, пока хватит! Мелкий рыжий котенок якобы озолотит мою золовку (кто-то ей сказал, что рыжие коты приносят удачу в деньгах), а Хитрый Кот - это для нас. Пусть не рыжий, но у нас ведь есть Сэнди! Правда, строго говоря, она тоже не рыжая, может, поэтому мы до сих пор не разбогатели ))

Bunnies' population grows (just as it should be)

When it comes to softies we all are children, no matter how old we really are ☺ My next bunny is for my husband's sister Olga, who saw Krolik and wanted her own little bunny. And I've just found this beautiful pattern, so here we are!

Fox + eider = sheep

I ordered some different types of wool to try (spinning), for instance Coburg Fox (Coburger Fuchs) and eiderwool (Eiderwolle). Surprisingly, they turned out to be not a fox and an eider but sheep ☺

Coburg Fox Sheep is a german breed with golden to brown wool. Very nice colour indeed.

Я заказала по клочку всякой разной шерсти для прядения, на пробу, и в том числе мне прислали Кобургскую Лису и "гагачью шерсть". Но, как выяснилось, это вовсе не лисица и не птица, а вполне себе овечки ☺ 

Кобургская лисья порода овец отличается своим окрасом - от золотистого до коричневого. Действительно, очень приятный оттенок.

Latvian rhubarb pie

It's a warm and sunny spring day today... and it's rhubarb time again! So I cook latvian rhubarb pie. Not sure whether it heals my homesickness or make it worse.
The recipe is from my old "Latvian Cuisine" book ("Латышская кухня", 1987).
Here is very similar one, I just used twice as much ingredients (as my recipe says).

I used to eat it with a mug of milk as a child. Oh, memories!

It got buttons finally! What can I say about this cardi? Beautiful, just beautiful (either pattern and yarn and the feelings). I was so excited I didn't even have patience to make a proper photo session, just took some photos right after finishing it (early morning it was, you can see it on my face.). ☺

Готов мой кардиган Джинни! Точнее, готов он был уже неделю назад, но пуговицы я купила только вчера. Что я могу сказать - прекрасная вещь - замечательный дизайн, красивые нитки и масса удовольствия в процессе.Так хорош, что у меня терпения не хватило устроить приличную фотосессию - помчалась фотографироваться прямо с утра, как закончила (что заметно по моему слегка помятому виду) )).

Stitch markers and row counter

I ordered extra wool for my Ginny's Cardigan and also a row counter and Prym's stitch calculator, and surprisingly received free stitch markers as a gift from the shop. Those coinsidences happen to me permanently ☺

Actually, I've never bought stitch markers before, paper clips suit great for that (mine are multicolored so they look nice, too), but these kittens are just too cute!
I am knitting wonderful Ginny's Cardigan right now, and they will just make it all even more fun.

Finally I've finished it. I wished me a very warm, very cosy, country-style sweater from pure "country" wool, and (though not without some flaws) I made it!

Наконец-то готов мой "деревенский" свитер. Косяков много, в частности, потекла краска во время стирки, и тем не менее я очень довольна.
Вязала по кругу до пройм, и рукава тоже по кругу. 
Шерсть латвийская - Лимбажу Тине и какая-то неопознанная тоже из Латвии, судя по всему, ручного прядения. Мне очень понравилось ею вязать и сам результат - то, как преображается вещь после стирки. Больше фото на Равелри.
Если кто-то знает, как убрать потеки, пожалуйста, скажите мне тоже ☺

Planned pooling experiment - a cushion case

Planned pooling cushion

My first experiment in planned pooling. It was fun to crochet it! Though I had to control every row and, if needed, to correct it by inc or dec loops at the beginning of a row. Once I even had to knot a big loop, because one of the orange sections was too long to correct it in other way. 
Actually it’s not really a cushion case. I still need to sew a back side to my cute crochetted square ☺

P.S. It’s 86 stitches in a row.

Мой первый эксперимент в planned pooling. Ужасно интересно вязать такие вещи. Конечно, секции не все точно одинаковые и приходилось немного корректировать рисунок с помощью убавлений и прибавлений накидов в петлях в начале ряда. Один раз даже пришлось связать узлом довольно большой кусок оранжевой секции, потому что она была совсем уж длинная.

Еще нужно пришить заднюю часть, чтобы получилась наволочка для подушки.

В ряду у меня 86 петель.

That's a cosy I knitted from my spindle-spun yarn... because I just couldn't look at it anymore without permanently thinking of how beautiful it was and how little of it I had - too little to knit something wearable... So I knitted something wearable for a teapot☺

I bought it for € 4.00 last week. Delivered yesterday.
Written by New Zealanders Constance Jackson and Judith Plowman, printed 1980, Collins.

Great book for beginners. I found really useful tips there (I've even written down some of them into my notebook). And that's nice to see both inches and centimeters! ☺

Отличная книжка для начинающих. Мало воды, много смысла, много полезностей.  И наконец-то сантиметры, а не только дюймы с ярдами ))

First knitted item from my own handspun

I'm so excited ))

I knitted a cowl for my son (in waiting for more fibers to spin ☺). 

It took half as much yarn I thought. Only 22 grams (out of 40).

Первая вещь, связанная из собственноручно спряденной пряжи! ☺ Воротник для сына. Думала, уйдет раза в два больше пряжи, чем вышло на самом деле. Здесь всего 22 грамма из 40 спряденных.

I've finally brought myself to finish the bolero. It was waiting since December for me to weave the loose ends in. Stitches are a bit uneven, but I didn't wash it yet, hope that will help.

My first handspun

I bought a drop spindle and some wool to try and I totally in love with the yarn I made (very humble, I know☺). Unfortunatelly, it's only 20 gramms, and it took half a day to spinn it, so I think I need more time to improve my spinning skills... or is it an e-spinner I need? 

Anyway, I liked spinning. So meditative.

Я купила веретено и набор шерсти на пробу и в полном восторге от пряжи, которая у меня получилась (скромняга, ага). К сожалению, вышло только 20 граммов и пряла я их полдня. Так что мне нужно или повышать свои навыки... или покупать электропрялку! В любом случае, мне понравилось это дело. Весьма медитативное занятие.
